Great Day

I wonder if I would have had the courage to stand up to the people who were against integration. The girls who were killed in Birmingham were my age. The kids who marched and were arrested in Birmingham were even younger than me. The museum was very very interesting and it was very uplifting. I learned a lot and when I walked through the Kelly Ingram Park with the statues showing you what happened like dogs coming at you and fire hoses pointed at you I hoped I would have had the courage to be like those students who stood up for what was right.

I am almost sure that I would not have the courage to do what those people did so they must have much courage. C.W.

Miranda,
I think anytime we can reflect on the fact that the world is not all about us, we grow. Sometimes it is not fun or popular to stand up for what is right, but it is necessary. This is true in small everyday things as well as in those things that may turn out being monumental.

Love,
Grandpa

I've been pondering what to write for the last ten minutes because I'm also wondering if I would have had the strength and courage to do the right thing had I been there. Thank you for your words to help me reflect on this important time in history.
